A Brief History

It seems to us that there has been a need for our concept for a long time. Friends who enjoy good wine would often have to make extra efforts in order to offer decent wines at their private or corporate events.  Those who are passionate and knowledgeable would travel to their favorite store to hand select their wines. Others would call and ask for suggestions, or better yet; “ Could you pick up a few cases for us while you’re getting your own wine?” was a reoccurring request over the years.

It appeared that the concept of a service recommending and obtaining wine selections to compliment the food being served at special events was viable. Especially in today’s hectic environment, with most professionals, already short on time, being too busy running their own companies. Other issues were not as clear; regulatory & licensing requirements are notoriously complex in the liquor distribution business.  Can you offer a complete streamlined service package at a competitive price? These were some of the questions and challenges facing Paul David, a Colorado businessman, while piecing together the concepts that eventually evolved into WINEPAIRINGS. Paul, who has caught a serious, self-professed wine bug early in his life recalls: “My first exposure to wine came from home;  My Parents were European, and loved to entertain. Special meals were always accompanied by nice wines.” Wine appreciation is credited to his Father who told him “The best way to learn about wine is to taste it for yourself”. A Finance graduate from Concordia University in Montreal, Paul started collecting wines in the late 70’s. The wine interest continued throughout a career in the Financial field and later ownership and founding of several personal small businesses. In 1986 Paul met his future wife Susan. While pursuing a career in the Medical field, Susan also honed her skills in the kitchen. “The most incredible meal”, and “An amazing dinner” are comments that were often heard after a diner which she had prepared. “We are fortunate to have met wonderful people who share our passions” say the couple who travel extensively to wine growing regions in the US and abroad in search of local wines and cuisine. “Sharing wine & food with good friends old and new are some of our most enjoyable times”. “As time went by, we befriended individuals in various segments of the wine and food industry”, Says Paul. "Some of these individuals have been involved in the wine business for many years. There where excellent networks already in place, in all facets of the industry, from importation of wines made by small wine grower’s, to Wholesale and retail.
